Inconel 738

Inconel 738 is a nickel-base gamma-prime strengthened casting superalloy combining a high chromium content with cobalt, tungsten, molybdenum, niobium and tantalum. Aluminium plus titanium give roughly 40 to 45 percent gamma-prime, chromium forms a protective Cr2O3 scale against hot corrosion, and tantalum stabilises the MC carbides. The casting window is wide and the fluidity good, so thin-walled gas-cooled blade sections can be produced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Inconel 738?

Inconel 738 (Alloy 738, UNS R30738, K738, AMS 5389) is a master alloys grade. What forms of Inconel 738 do you supply?

ROBAN supplies Inconel 738 as master alloy bar, as-cast, vacuum induction melted, master alloy ingot and button, horizontally vacuum cast bar, remelted casting rod for investment casting, cut to the length you need and packed for remelting.

Do you supply material certificates for Inconel 738?

Yes. Every order ships with a mill test report covering the actual heat analysis of the melt, together with the heat number and the melt route. 3.2 documentation is available where the contract requires it.

What is the lead time for Inconel 738?

Master alloy is made to order rather than held in stock. The usual lead time is 20 to 40 working days depending on the grade, the melt route and the quantity. Send us your specification for a firm date.

Can you supply Inconel 738 in a specific size?

Yes. State the diameter, the length and the condition you need. Bar is normally supplied as-cast and cut to your length, and ingot is supplied as button or cube to match your melting equipment.
