Nickel and Special Alloy Supply to North America

United States and Canadian buyers specify to ASTM and ASME more than to anything else. We quote against the ASTM designation, the UNS number and the product form, and we state in the quotation which standard governs the material and which one governs the inspection.

Applications

Where the material goes in this market

The grades we are asked for most often, and the service environment behind each of them.

Oil and gas, including offshore

Sour service, high-pressure pipe and high-temperature process service. 625 and C-276 for chloride and sour environments, 800H and 800HT for creep-limited heater and exchanger duty.

Chemical and pharmaceutical processing

Hastelloy C-276, C-22 and B-2 for the acid services where 316L and 825 give way. We work from your corrosion study, not from a grade list.

Power generation, including nuclear

690, 625 and 718 for turbine and reactor service, with the elevated-temperature mechanical properties reported against the section size.

Marine and offshore fabrication

Monel 400 and 400 for seawater service, and the nickel alloys used in fasteners and forgings supplied to A 484 dimensional tolerance.

Pulp, paper and environmental equipment

825 and 904L where the process carries chlorides or sulphuric acid at elevated temperature.

Specifications

ASTM and ASME specifications we quote against

We quote to the standard on your purchase order. Where two standards apply — one for the material, one for the inspection document — the quotation states which governs which.

StandardWhat it covers
A 276 / A 276M Stainless steel bar and shapes
A 240 / A 240M Chromium and chromium-nickel stainless plate, sheet and strip
A 480 / A 480M General requirements for stainless steel plate, sheet and strip
A 484 / A 484M General requirements for stainless steel bar, billets and forgings
A 693 Precipitation-hardening stainless steel plate, sheet and strip
A 705 Pressure vessel steel forgings and weldments
B 160 / B 161 Nickel bar, and nickel seamless pipe and tube
B 163 Nickel-chromium-iron seamless pipe and tube
B 165 Nickel-copper seamless pipe and tube
B 167 Nickel-chromium-iron seamless pipe and tube
B 407 Nickel-iron-chromium seamless pipe and tube
B 444 Nickel-chromium-iron-alloy seamless pipe and tube
B 622 Nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper seamless pipe and tube
B 829 Nickel and nickel-alloy seamless pipe and tube
SB 165, SB 167, SB 407, SB 444, SB 622 The ASME counterparts of the B specifications above, for code work
A 751 / A 751M Test methods for steel products, including chemical analysis
E 8 / E 8M Tensile test method
Documentation

What arrives with the material

The paperwork is quoted before the order is placed, not assembled afterwards. A 3.2 certificate in particular has to be arranged before manufacturing, because it needs a second party present.

Documents

  • Mill test report carrying the heat number, the chemical analysis and the mechanical results for the section actually supplied.
  • EN 10204 Type 3.1 certification, issued by us.
  • EN 10204 Type 3.2 certification, witnessed by an inspection body. The witnessing party, the notification period and the tests to be witnessed are agreed before manufacture, because a 3.2 cannot be retrofitted at the point of despatch.
  • Release note from the third-party inspector, where one is nominated.
  • Packing list, marking details and the compliance statement for the consignee.

Read them before you accept

Three checks catch most problems, and all three are yours to make:

  • The heat number on the certificate is the heat number stamped on the item. If they do not match, the certificate belongs to different material.
  • The specification on the certificate matches the purchase order in full, suffix included. A 240 is not A 240M.
  • Every test the order required is present, not only the ones the mill runs by default.
Trade terms

Trade terms and despatch

State the term and the destination port in your enquiry and we will quote against it. We do not add a surcharge later.

FOB Shanghai or Ningbo

The usual starting point. You take the container at the terminal and arrange the onward move.

CIF

We quote sea freight and minimum insurance to your nominated port. State the port and the named vessel window you need.

DAP

We deliver to your door on the terms you nominate. Duties and import clearance in your country stay yours.

Air freight

Available for small, urgent or sample quantities. Weight and dimensional limits are confirmed with the quotation.

Grades

Grades specified in this market

The grades our customers in North America order most often, taken from the standards listed above. Every one links to its full composition, mechanical data and supply forms.

In practice

What a buyer needs to know

Cross-border paperwork We provide the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin where a preferential rate applies, and the mill test report. Your broker handles the import declaration.
Time zones We work to China Standard Time and answer enquiries in English. A message sent outside our working day is answered on the next working morning.
Payments We quote and invoice in US dollars by default, with other currencies arranged for larger contracts.
Questions

Asked often, answered plainly

Do you supply into the United States and Canada directly?

We supply into both. Most North American business goes through a distributor or a stockist who holds the material locally, but we also ship direct against a purchase order where the buyer prefers it.

Can you supply to ASME specifications?

Yes. Where the material goes into code work, we quote the ASME designation alongside the ASTM one and confirm the specification on the order.

Do you issue EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 certificates?

Both are available. The certificate type, the validating party and the tests to be witnessed are stated in the quotation before you order, not decided afterwards.

Grade, form, dimensions, quantity, application and required delivery date. Add the standard and the certificate type you need, and any drawing or specification you are working to. That is enough for us to quote and for you to compare.
